Get a quick start to your transition from high school to employment.
Work Transition is part of a school pathway suitable for many high school students. Work Transition is a School to Career Program that combines on the job experience and training with related in-school courses. Work Transition helps students develop specific skills, knowledge and experience required for full-time employment.
Students earn credits while gaining work experience in a Cooperative Education placement in their final semester(s) of secondary school.
Work Transition placements are Coop placements specifically designed to provide on the job training for potential employment upon completion of their coop.
The workplace provides opportunities for many students to develop and demonstrate their talents and skills. Students can gain valuable work experience leading to full time employment. There is a constant demand and growing opportunity in our area for employment in the Manufacturing, Telecommunications, Hospitality, Retail, Transportation, and Service sectors.
Some students decide to go directly to the work place upon completion of secondary school. Some may choose to work for a year or two before going on to post secondary education programs. Work transition gives students the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and community connections they will require after their completion of secondary school.
More than one third of our current workforce will be retiring in the next 5-10 years.
The majority of graduating students in Ontario choose to go directly to work after secondary school.
Students need both academic and practical skills to be successful in today's workforce.
Work Transition will:
Provide you with the opportunity for a smoother transition from school to employment.
Help you match your skills and interests to a rewarding career.
Help you be part of the solution to Ontario's skilled and educated labour shortage.
Help you plan a school pathway of relevant, meaningful courses and experiences.
